Trademark Registration in Cambodia

Return to Intellectual Property

General Information

Cambodia is a member of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) - 1995. Currently there is no trademark law per se, but it is possible to register trademarks in Cambodia.

The first-to-file rule is applied for determining the priority right. Use in Cambodia is not required at filing.

A registered mark should be used within five (5) years from the date of registration to avoid eventual cancellation action due to non-use.

The term of registration is ten (10) years and may be renewed for successive ten-year periods.

Cambodia adopted Nice Classification System. One application can cover only one class of goods or services.

Foreign entities can file their application directly if they have a representative office in Cambodia or through a representative.

Applications are examined as to form and if determined as accepted, are published for opposition purpose. If no opposition is filed within a period of two (2) months, the Certificate of Registration will be granted.
